Mauritius Ranked 6th in the Yale 2010 Environmental Performance index
Anyone who has ever visited Mauritius or is lucky enough to live here will tell you that Mauritius is a truly beautiful island where the air is clean as is the water in the crystal clear blue lagoons. What might surprise you is that Mauritius is a densely populated country and relatively industrialised, making the ranking even more of an achievement for Mauritius.
The latest survey by Yale has officially confirmed this by ranking Mauritius 6th out of 163 countries in its Environmental Performance index. Mauritius scored 80.6 points out of 100.
Countries were ranked using 25 performance indicators designed to measure two core objectives of environmental policy:
• Environmental Health, which measures environmental stresses to human health; and
• Ecosystem Vitality, which measures ecosystem health and natural resource management.
